Um hi! I dont know if you remember my dorky self from Metrocon last year but I was wondering if I could ask some advice? I'm planing on (and probably failing) at making a Lolita dress and Ive never actually made a dress at all. So I was wondering if you had any tips? I'm a plus size cosplayer and my dips and curves are not always where I wish they were so I'm not quite sure on how to really go about starting it.

Hi there!
To start, If you’re unsure about how certain pieces of clothing will lay on your body, I suggest figuring out what type of body shape you have-that will make it easier to figure out what type of dress to make and help you find a pattern. For me, I have an hourglass shape where my bust and my hips are similar in size and width, and my waist is very small in comparison. For my body shape, I always choose dresses that have a full circle or A-line skirt, and some sort of belting or waistband at the waist to bring focus to the smallest part of my body. If you are perhaps an apple shape, where your bust, waist and hips are very similar in size, a empire waist dress may be what you’re looking for- where the waistband is higher than your natural waist and lays just beneath your bust. Do some research to figure out your body type and how the best way you think to dress it would be.
Next, if you’ve never made a dress on your own before, buy a pattern! Simplicity, McCalls, and Butterick patterns are me favorite and they are pretty easy to follow. If you’re ever unsure about how something will fit, try cutting out the pattern pieces a couple inches bigger around the sides. If you’re making a Lolita dress, it’s all about the ruffles!! The more ruffles, bows, beading, and any sort of cute flouncy crap you can throw into your base dress the better! So on your hunt for a pattern don’t just look for something that will flatter your body type, but also that you can incorporate those Lolita qualities into it. I really hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

Encountering some cosplay-hate on facebook so I just wanted to remind everyone that people only have a restricted amount of resources to use in cosplay— whether it’s money or sewing ability or materials— and that every cosplay should be appreciated.

Even when you don’t think it’s “good enough”

Because that cosplay could be someone’s best work, you don’t know what struggles they went through to get it.

Hello! :D I just wanted to tell you that your Princess Vanellope cosplay is absolutely stunning! I wanted to do it too but I thought it was impossible until you proved otherwise ;v; You're amazing!

Oh my goodness thank you so much!
At first, I was terrified with taking on the challenge of making Vanellope’s dress, but once I broke it down into smaller parts and just worked on it piece by piece, it wasn’t as tough as I had originally thought. Don’t get me wrong, I learned a lot when I made her, and it took a good amount of time! But it’s one of my favorite costumes that I’ve made and she is so much fun to wear.
If you need any suggestions or help on making your own, don’t hesitate to ask me! I also have a tutorial on how to make her pleated skirt, so that may help you out too (:

» Happy 2014!

I apologize for my recent absence; my Holiday season was so full of festive and cosplay goodies that I barely had time to blog about them! Right after I attended Holiday Matsuri in Orlando Florida, I devoted the majority of my time spending it with my family up until the 3rd of January in which I went to Evil Con in Tampa Florida! This was the convention’s first year, and I honestly had a great time. The hotel and convention space was small in comparison to much more “known” conventions around the area, however it was the perfect size for this occasion. I cosplayed as the Ice Queen from Adventure Time and and won Best Technical in the Costume Contest! There were so many evilly-fabulous cosplyers there with some AMAZING costumes! I really enjoyed the “Bad Guy” theme, and it was a blast being the Ice Queen again.

Currently I’m working on a few commissions for some friends, and I’ll be updating and sharing some photos a little later in the construction process. The next costume I have planed for myself will be Astrid from How To Train Your Dragon 2, and my friend, and great cosplayer, Chelsey, of First Choice Cosplay will be my Hiccup! We are planning on debuting our cosplays at MegaCon in Orlando Florida in March. Later down the line I’ll be attending MetroCon in Tampa Florida in July and I have some very exciting information to share when it comes closer in the months!

As always, thanks so much to everyone who is a follower of mine, I REALLY appreciate your support and kind words of encouragement in my cosplaying and sewing endeavors, and as always, feel free to ask me any questions regarding my costumes, sewing techniques, future plans, or anything else you may have in mind!

I hope everyone had a great Holiday season and a great New Year! I can tell this is going to be a great year and I’m looking forward to sharing the love of cosplay with you all (:

Don’t forget to check out First Choice Cosplay too!

Hi! I really liked your Ice Queen Cosplay at Holiday Matsuri. It was really amazing! I was wondering though, where did you get the teeth from? you had mentioned at Holiday Matsuri that you got them online. could you post a link please? Thanks.

Hi there!
I did order them online, at Dental Distortions! The style that I got were called Gremlin, and I ordered the unstained ones. With shipping included, it cost around $30.00. I was so pleased with how the teeth looked, and they were super easy to fit to my mouth and were comfortable to wear all three days at the convention. Dental Distortions has a lot of different styles to choose from, they even have a special pair for Grell from Black Butler!

Thanks for asking, and let me know if you have any more questions!
